About Code Bloom

Code Bloom is a daily code-breaking puzzle. You guess a hidden sequence of four colored shapes, and after each submission you see how many tokens were exact (right token in the right slot) and how many were present (right token, wrong slot). You have eight guesses to crack the code. The first 30 seconds open directly on four empty slots and a six-token palette, so you can submit your first guess immediately and let the feedback row teach you the loop.

Daily mode generates one code deterministically from the UTC date, so every player sees the same hidden code on the same day. Practice mode draws a fresh random code per round for warm-up. The hidden code never repeats a token, but your guesses can: pick the same token in two slots when you want to test where it lives.

Every token has a unique color and a unique shape (red circle, orange square, yellow triangle, green diamond, blue hexagon, purple star), so the feedback row works without color: filled green dots are exact, outlined orange dots are present, and grey dots are misses. Daily completion, your current streak, and your high score live in browser local storage on your device only.

How to Play

  1. Tap a token in the palette to fill the next empty slot in your current guess.
  2. Tap a filled slot to clear it, or use Backspace to clear the rightmost filled slot.
  3. When all four slots are filled, tap Submit to lock in your guess and read the feedback row.
  4. Repeat with a new guess until you crack the code or run out of your eight attempts.
  5. Use the keyboard if you prefer: every palette token, slot, and action is a real button reachable by Tab and activated with Enter or Space.

Tips & Tricks

  • Open with two distinct tokens in the leftmost two slots. The feedback tells you whether the openers are in the code, in different slots, or absent.
  • Eliminate before you commit. Use early guesses to test which tokens are in the code; later guesses to lock down positions.
  • Watch the present count, not just the exact count. A guess with three present and zero exact still tells you a lot about which slot is wrong.
  • Time bonus only adds about a third of total max score. Take the extra ten seconds to think before you submit a low-information guess.

Scoring

  • Base score: 100 points for cracking the code in any number of guesses.
  • Guess bonus: up to 100 points; solving in one guess is the full bonus, solving in eight gives zero, with linear decay in between.
  • Time bonus: up to 50 points, decaying linearly to zero across a two-minute window from your first submitted guess.
  • A failed round (eight wrong guesses) earns 0 points across the board.

Daily and practice

  • Daily: one hidden code, deterministic by UTC date. Replaying the same daily does not extend your streak.
  • Practice: a fresh random code each round. Use it to warm up before the daily.
  • Streak: only a fresh UTC daily solve bumps the daily streak counter; a daily fail or daily quit resets it to zero.

Privacy

  • Code Bloom does not send your guesses off device. Telemetry events carry only derived numbers (score, mode, code length, daily date).
  • The share card shows guess count and per-row feedback symbols only, never the colored guess tokens. Two players with the same scoring shape get byte-identical share cards.
  • Daily completion, current streak, and high score are stored in browser local storage on your device only. Clearing site data resets them.

Use cases*

  • Daily curiosity break: one code in a couple of minutes during a coffee queue.
  • Logic warm-up: building deductions from sparse feedback flexes the same muscle as harder logic puzzles.
  • Friendly competition: every player sees the same daily code, so scores compare cleanly.
  • Mobile-friendly play: tap-target sized palette and slot buttons reflow cleanly to phone widths.

*Code Bloom is an entertainment game and not an educational tool. Use case suggestions are for casual play only.
