About Rank Relay
Rank Relay is a daily ranking puzzle that asks you to put six familiar items in the correct order by a hidden fact. The board opens cold with no tutorial: drag, tap two tiles to swap, or use the arrow keys to slide a tile up or down, and lock your answer when you are ready. You get up to three locks per round, with green, amber, and muted feedback after each lock so you can refine your guess without seeing the full reveal until the end.
Daily mode shows the same prompt to every player on the same UTC date, so you can compare runs with friends fairly. Practice mode reaches into the same pack for an off-clock random prompt whenever you want a quick warm-up. The score rewards a strong first lock most, then time, then attempts used, so playing carefully is usually worth more than spamming locks.
Rank Relay sits naturally between a Wordle and a trivia quiz: it takes a minute, it gives you something to share, and the daily streak nudges you to come back tomorrow.
How to Play
- Read the prompt at the top of the board and the axis it is asking you to order by.
- Reorder the six tiles using drag, tap-two-to-swap, or the arrow keys.
- Tap "Lock attempt" when you are ready. Green tiles are exact, amber tiles are one slot off, muted tiles are further away.
- You have up to three locks per round. The round ends when you lock the correct order or when your three locks are used.
- Play "Daily" once per UTC day to grow your streak; "Practice" never affects the streak.
Tips & Tricks
- Find one anchor first: the item you are most confident is at one extreme. Place it before fine-tuning the middle.
- Use the first lock as a probe. The exact and one-off counts narrow down the next move quickly.
- Arrow keys are fastest on desktop. ArrowUp / ArrowLeft swaps with the tile above; ArrowDown / ArrowRight swaps with the tile below.
- On mobile, tap a tile to "pick" it (it gets a focus ring), then tap a second tile to swap them.
- Time bonus tapers after about five seconds, but it never falls below zero. Speed matters less than first-lock accuracy.
Scoring
- Placement: 200 points per exact slot in your first lock, 60 points per one-off slot.
- Attempt bonus: 600 / 300 / 100 points for winning on the 1st / 2nd / 3rd lock.
- Time bonus: up to 400 points if you win within five seconds, decaying linearly to zero by about a minute.
- High score is saved locally on the device.
- Daily streak increments once per UTC date when you win the daily.
How the daily works
- Every UTC day, every player sees the same prompt, picked deterministically from the bundled pack.
- Replays of the same daily do not extend your streak.
- Practice mode rolls a random prompt from the same pack and never touches the streak counter.
